This morning we woke up and headed to North Cascades NP. This picture was taken on the drive not far from the entrance to the park.
We got to the park around 8:40 and honestly had no idea what to expect. Neither one of us had ever heard of this national park before so we were eager to check it out.
There were a ton of great scenic views as we began to drive through the park. We took a short walk down to the river the first chance we got and the water there was gorgeous.
There was a grate bridge that you could walk on to stand above this waterfall.
We got a lot of great pictures along the drive around the park. There were tons of beautiful cascades and even pink and white trees! We even got a chance for Janella to be silly!
After driving around we decided to find a trail we could hike to get our flag picture. We hiked the Thunder Knob trail and got a great shot with the mountain behind us.
Unfortunately the visitor center and a lot of the park were still closed for the winter season so we left after a few hours to head to Seattle. When we were in Spokane we discussed going to Alaska for a day so we could get all 50 states in during our roadtrip. We checked out some flights from Seattle to Juneau and the price was right so we booked tickets! We flew out of Seattle after North Cascades and arrived in Alaska at 8pm. We're super excited about getting to all 50 states in this year!
During our flight we met a nice guy named Ken. He happened to be a captain for Dolphin Tours and we asked him quite a few questions about what we could do this time of year in Juneau. We really had our hearts set on doing some whale watching, but he said it was too early in the season for that. Since we won't get to do that while we are here, he was very nice and showed us a lot of pictures of whales, eagles, and even bears from some of his previous tours! Here are some pictures from the flight and arrival in Juneau.
We stayed at Driftwood Motel for the night instead of camping because we literally only brought a backpack with us to Alaska. Here is the view from our room.
We have decided that we will go visit Mendenhall Glacier tomorrow which isn't too far from Juneau and maybe even do some hiking in the area.
