Since we slept in the car last night we both woke up pretty early. We had no idea where we were in the park when we arrived so it was a complete surprise to find this amazing lake right behind our parking spot!
It was quite cold out so Evan made us some eggs for breakfast. It was delicious!
We took our flag picture and Evan needed to "disturb the peace."
Then we left the campsite to check out the other open portions of the park. We stopped by the visitor center and got a few suggestions from the bullentin board and then hit the road again. Our plan was to drive the Going to the Sun Road as far as we could on the west side and then drive to the eastern entrance and do the same there. The road was closed at the end of Lake McDonald so we stopped there and started snapping pics. Janella took tons on our way back out of the park.
We left the west entrance and started our drive to the east side. The drive was beautiful, but was way longer than we expected.
I think this was the third or fourth time we've passed a continental divide sign. Honu is getting a workout in the Mountains!
We had to cut the drive short before entering the east side of the park because we wanted to get back to the campground and set up before the sun. It was kind of a bummer we didn't get into the East side of the park, but we will be going back again sometime since the entire Going to the Sun Road wasn't open anyway.
After we arrived Evan saw some fellow campers throwing the frisbee and slack lining so we made some new friends! We had a great time with this crew, they turned out to be the Ultimate Frisbee team from the University of Montana enjoying their spring break, and spent the rest of the evening hanging out.
Tomorrow we head to Lake Couer d'Alene.
Lesson of the Day: Sleeping in our little Honu is not comfortable at all, but neither is setting up camp at 1AM in the cold.
Word of the Day: snafu
