It continued to rain all night and around 3am we woke up to find our tent was starting to flood. I wish we would've gotten a picture of it, but we kind of panicked and took care of it before that thought ever crossed our minds! Turns out that the tarp our tent was sitting on was just pooling the rain so it starting seeping in. And also our rain fly has a malfunction on one side that we need to figure out how to rig up before the next rainy night in the tent. We got hot showers and packed up camp to head to Branson for the day. Below is Evan leading the way in the nasty, cold, gray and rainy weather. We soon found out that today would not go as planned... 😕
We hoped as we got closer to Branson the rain would let up so we could enjoy some outdoor activities. However, it did not. It rained and poured and rained some more! So we finally cut our losses and decided to head straight to St. Louis to visit the zoo. It was even drizzling there when we arrived, but to stick to our original plan of one awesome thing in every state we had to suck it up and go in. And of course, get our flag picture!
There weren't a ton of animals out in the nasty weather but we managed to see a few of our favorites. We especially loved the snow leopard and a baby orangutan!
We closed down the zoo and headed to a small town right over the Illinois state line to stay inside for the night at Evan's friend Chad's house. But of course not before getting a picture of the cardinals stadium and gateway arch!
State line crossed at 5:30pm and that's it for today. Time to play catch up with Chad and get some rest for the long drive tomorrow!
Lesson of the Day: Make sure the rain fly is properly secured to actually keep the rain off the tent!
