Janella became pretty sick overnight. We think it was a combination of allergies and altitude sickness so we decided to rest for the day in the motel. She obviously needed it and ended up sleeping in until noon! This is the the motel we stayed at and our view to across the street.
While Janella was resting I worked on some laundry, blogged and found I had to bandage little Honu because she had a boo-boo.
For dinner that night I made microwave manwiches. Janella was surprised you could cook the ground turkey in the microwave. I let her know that in a desperate moment one thanksgiving my family cooked an entire bird in the microwave.
Day 29: Grand Teton NP
The rest seemed to help Janella so we hit the road and got to the park around 10. Soon after entering we saw Grand Teton!
A lot of the park was still closed for winter so we got the ranger to take our flag picture outside the visitor center with Grand Teton behind us. This is our sixth national park!
We wanted to take a short hike down to the Snake River from Schwabacher Road, but the road in was closed when we got there. We decided to just add the walk down the road to our hike because we really wanted to see the river. We trekked on through the snow even though we weren't dressed for it. Some parts were pretty deep and snow was getting in our shoes. Instead of finishing we took a quick selfie and headed back to the car to get Janella, and her now wet feet, out of the cold.
While we thawed out we drove to see Jackson Lake. It was completely frozen, but the lake was still gorgeous, especially under the formidable peaks of the Teton Range.
Since there wasn't much to do with all the closures we called it a day and headed towards Montana. We crossed into Montana late in the afternoon and shortly after that we "entered" Yellowstone NP. Sadly, most of Yellowstone is still closed for the winter season, so we snapped our flag pic in the far Northwest section that juts into MT. . Luckily we visited 2 years ago and were able to see the beautiful sights then. We are counting this as our seventh national park :D
We had a very long drive ahead of us to Glacier National Park so we stopped in Bozeman to take a break and get some Chipotle! My favorite! Finally, after almost a 12 hour drive we arrived at Glacier around 1am. Since it was so late we decided to sleep in our car at Apgar Campground. Tomorrow we will explore this highly recommended park!
Lesson of the Day: We need to check on the next park(s) and potential closures before the day of arrival!
