Day 21 & 22: Steamboat Springs, Colorado

The entire reason we came to Steamboat was to snowboard and its a huge bummer that Janella is so sick because we really wanted her to join us today. She insisted, however, that she stay in bed and rest up to see if it will help. So, Erik and I went out on the mountain bright and early to see if we could find some fresh tracks. It had been snowing all night and it was still going as we made our way to the top of the mountain.

We took one run down Morningside and before our way back up the lift we decided to hike up to the good stuff on the other side of the bowl. The hike was only going to take 5 minutes, but hiking in full gear isn't very fun so we took some pictures while we caught our breath!

No pics from the actual run, but it was excellent. Fresh powder and steep. Exactly what we were looking for.

We
spent the rest of the morning weaving through trees all over the mountain. Erik was a great tour guide and took me to all the best spots.

Trees!
Around 11 we needed a break and hit up a bar at the top of the Gondola. After a couple refreshing drinks we headed back out. I overheard my favorite quote of the day as we were getting off the chair lift. A skier and her few boarding friends hopped off the lift in front of us and as the boarders were clipping in she yells back to them "No friends on a pow day!" And shoots off into the trees! It was hilarious.
On our third run after lunch lightning struck... twice. I was following Erik under a tree branch and as he ducked low to get under it he clipped the trunk with his hip and went down. I had already committed to the same line and as I ducked to avoid the branch I clipped the same damn tree and took a face full of snow! We both hit the tree pretty hard, but after we confirmed there were no serious injuries we couldn't stop laughing about what had just happened. Same tree, same fall. Simply hilarious.
It was slower going right after that as we made our way down the mountain. We did, however, come across this hut that was completely covered by snow. Naturally we had to ride over it!

We made it home a little after 2 to find Janella was still in bed cuddled up with Mr. Ruck (Erik's cat). She still wasn't feeling any better so we went to the store and picked up some remedies to help clear her up. I hope all that stuff will help so she can get out on the mountain tomorrow and have more fun than her first experience in Loveland. For the rest of the day we just relaxed and watched tv.

Day 22: Janella hits the Mountain

Janella's plethora of treatments kicked in over night and she finally felt some relief this morning. Since she was feeling better she said she wanted to get out and give snowboarding another try. Woohoo!

Thankfully, it was beautiful weather!

I took her out to Preview and very patiently worked with her one on one to get her down the run without any falls. It didn't take very long for her to be able to slip down the run without issue, but before that I was able to get this EXCELLENT face plant video.
We stopped shortly after lunch because I didn't want Janella to get too worn out and potentially get worse again. She was very happy with her progress and in better spirits so silly Nella graced us with an appearance, lol.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a pretty fun day so for the rest of the evening we relaxed and watched Trailer Park Boys. I had never seen it before and the character, Bubbles, just cracked me up.

Lesson of the Day: Eventhough it's kind of uncomfortable (and gross), netipot nasal washes are the best thing to get rid of congestion so you can breathe! Janella couldn't believe all the nasty gunk that was just chilling up there!

Word of the Day: palliate

Every time I see the word "steam boat", for some reason I remember Mickey Mouse and I won't be able to get his image off my head for hours. There's something about Disney characters that can bring out the child in us. There are still few people who would want this more than anime or 3D remakes. I remember trying to draw them as a young kid. My favorite would be Goofy and Pluto. I have very intense memories with these characters. I grew up with them.
