We went to our first National Park today with our friend Kayla and her son, Holden. Rocky Mountain NP was designated a National Park in 1915 and covers 400 sq. miles of montane, sub-alpine, and alpine wilderness in the Colorado Rockies (thanks brochure). It was awesome!
We didn't have time to explore the whole park, but we saw some spectacular scenery in the Eastern portion.
We took our flag picture at (the now frozen) Bear Lake. Colorado is our 7th state, but sadly we forgot the pin for this picture! It will be on there for the next one.
Post picture antics.
After Bear Lake we drove to Sprague Lake to find some sledding for Holden. It turned out that we did most of the sledding!!
We spent about an hour sledding, but it felt like 10 minutes because we were having so much fun! After a little exploring around the Sprague Lake area we decided to call it a day and head out.
We stopped in Estes Park to grab a sticker for our cooler and a bite to eat. On our way out we stopped by the haunted Stanley Hotel which was the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in King's The Shining. After being spooked we saw some deer and Elk and made our way out of the mountains.
Lesson of the day: snow boots required for playing in the snow!
