Day 12: Nebraska... and Colorado (oops!)

We slept in a little and after breakfast we tried to catch up a little on our posting because service hasn't been too great on the road. Then we finally hit the road around noon and got bored fast. So I kept myself busy deleting bad pics from my phone to make room for more while Evan had fun trying to eat big trucks.
Nebraska was full of wide open spaces of corn fields and farms speckled with tons of cows!

I took over driving to give Evan a break but we quickly learned that maybe it wasn't a great idea. Somehow Siri got turned off and Evan wasn't paying attention so I accidentally took us a few miles into Colorado. Evan knows better than to leave me in charge of reading signs and being good with directions! While we were trying to get back to Nebraska we noticed a place called the Tipsy Turtle so of course we had to stop for a drink! And I met a super cool dog named Brutus!
As we drove further into Western Nebraska and got closer to Chimney Rock we finally started to see some more exciting terrain and we even saw some tumbleweeds!
We finally got to Settlers Trading Post campground around 5:30 and set up camp as fast as we could with the crazy winds. Check out the view from our site!

I was so happy that we finally got to FaceTime with Penny while Evan made his chicken chunk soup. She was confused and kept trying to lick the phone!

This time I got a picture of the soup before we devoured it! It's so easy and so delicious!!

After dinner we watched the sunset, had some beers and waited to see Chimney Rock lit up for the night.
Tonight it's supposed to get down to 39F so we're going to snuggle up now and try to stay warm! Tomorrow we will hike up to the base of Chimney Rock and then drive to Cheyenne to see our friends Kayla and Jeff!
Lessons of the Day:
Blogging is quite time consuming!
Delete bad pictures as you take them. Unlimited data is useless when your provider is Sprint.
Road-tripping with Janella isn't the best idea. She has no sense of direction, gets motion sickness and falls asleep anytime a car is moving.

Word of the day: transient
