After a fun week in Lake Forest and Chicago it was time to head West to meet our friends in Wyoming! Along the way we planned on stopping in Iowa to see some awesome Dolomite caves, but before we could enjoy some more sites we had to get out of the driveway...
We only forgot one thing and after a quick return visit we were on our way again!
We crossed the state line at 1:15pm. As you can probably imagine Iowa was mostly flat... But we did see a couple weird giant yellowish domes, more turbines, and some furry cows!
About an hour after crossing the state line we pulled up to the caves.
Not sure what I was doing here...
Below is the Ice Cave. It's hard to see in the picture, but when you shined a light on the roof of the cave it lit up like a Christmas tree! Very cool stuff.
Janella was getting pretty adventurous!
I was keeping my feet on the ground today... And of course admiring the big rocks for potential climbing.
5th state flag picture!
Here's a few landscapes for your enjoyment.
After a couple hours at Maquoketa we continued our drive West into Nebraska. Saw some cool clouds and a sunset along the way!
We drove until about 11:30 and then stayed in York at a motel for the evening. Overnight temps dipped into the mid 20's and we are not set up to sleep comfortably in that kind of weather! Tomorrow we head to Chimney Rock!
Lessons of the Day:
Don't forget to stretch before any serious hiking and spelunking.
Janella needs to get her eyes checked ASAP when we get back.
Word of the Day: spelunking
