Sorry it has been a while since we posted anything new, but I did want to give an update while we are trying to catch up on all the blog entries from the roadtrip. I also wanted to let everyone know that as we catch up and post entries they will be posted as the date it actually took place. You will have to scroll down below or look through the archives folder to see the newly posted blogs.
Mid-June we left Texas to finish the last 28 states and 13 National Parks on the itinerary. We arrived back to our starting point in Texas the evening of July 7th after 120 days and about 26,000 miles of driving. The trip was everything we hoped it would be and more! During the trip we had: 0 speeding tickets, 0 roadkills, 1 driving backwards on the interstate, 1 time locked out of car, 1 lost item, 1 pair of shoes killed, 10 bright orange duct tape repair bandaids on various gear, 22 friends/family visits along the way, saw over 50 species of animals, 1 really crazy zig-zaggy loop around America, 47 national parks and many other cool places, 49 states, over 300 YouTube videos, and over 6500 photos!!! It was definitely an amazing adventure of a lifetime and we are so thankful we were able to celebrate the National Park Service's Centennial birthday year by exploring all the parks! On July 13th we flew from Austin, Texas to Hawaii to knock off state 50 and get married. Our wedding day was absolutely beautiful and everything turned out exactly how we wanted and more! Since the wedding we have been unpacking and settling into our new home in our new city, Austin. Evan's classes started on Monday and I am now focusing on getting the perfect job. Once I get that job I will have a very exciting announcement for everyone. Until then I am diligently working to get my journal notes from the trip turned into blog entries! Stay tuned and check back often to read all about our amazing trip! Hope you enjoy our final flag picture complete with all 50 pins! Thank you to everyone who has been checking on us and following our travels! We're sorry we can't do a better a job at posting right now! It has still been almost impossible to keep our sites up to date while actually on the trip, but we promise to complete it as soon as time and service allows!
Currently we are back in Austin for a short break to find a place to live before our upcoming move. We will hopefully leave Texas next week after getting a place and visiting with some family. Then we head out east to finish the last 28 states before flying to Hawaii mid July for the wedding. So far we have visited 34 national parks and 21 states. We are so grateful and blessed that we were given this opportunity and are super excited to get back on the road to finish the journey! Until next time, here's our flag picture at the Rio Grande! So far we have visited 18 states and 26 national parks and are at our halfway point of 2 months into our 4 month roadtrip. Lesson of the trip: It is extremely hard to keep up to date on the blog and other social media when there is no service 80% of the time. Not to mention, we are always staying busy with amazing hikes and things to do at all the spectacular National Parks and other places we've stopped by in between. However, because Evan has been taking so many videos he has had to upload them constantly to YouTube to free up space on his phone. If you want to see our most recent adventures you will definitely want to check out the YouTube channel and all the cool videos on there. We promise that when we are finished with our trip and wedding we will finish the blog (we won't stop doing what we can while on the road) and all other social media outlets with our priceless experiences so you can enjoy our journey across America as well! Here's a picture of us at the top of the Angel's Landing hike at Zion National Park! Also, to everyone who has seen us on the road and sent pictures and/or well wishes we appreciate your support! We love the comments on our blog posts as well. Thank you all.
This morning we woke up to the smell of french toast for breakfast. We are definitely getting spoiled by all of this delicious non-camping food. After we filled up on breakfast we got ready for our hike.
When we got to Torrey Pines we decided to park by the beach and walk up the hill for our warmup. Once we got to the top of the hill we checked the map and decided which trail to follow back down to the beach. We stopped along the way to take a few pictures and enjoy the views. This afternoon Evan and Sam left to go play golf while I stayed home and took the time off to rest.
This morning we left Blake's around 11 to head to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center.
We slept in a little late today because we needed the extra rest. Then we had some delicious Blake-made breakfast burritos and hung out around the house for a while. In the afternoon we decided to walk down to the beach for a few hours. It was about a 30 minute walk to actually get there, but at least it had nice scenery on the way.
When we woke up this morning we were quite surprised at how nice our campsite and the scenery was for a BLM campground. The campsite was very well kept and completely free! We couldn't believe it.
Here is our lovely campsite on the river complete with our very own bear box! This is the first park where we had to use one because the bears are now emerging from hibernation. Unfortunately, we didn't have any bear sightings. Yes you read that correctly, I really want to see a bear. Only a black bear though, I have no desire to see a grizzly anywhere close to me, lol.
We woke up early this morning, said thanks and farewell to Carlos, and drove to Yosemite National Park.
This morning we slept in a little because we needed the extra rest from all the car “sleeping.” We had to drive some more to get to Lassen Volcanic National Park and we finally arrived around 10:45am.
This was our “campsite” by the river last night. It was a pretty nice spot, but we are so tired of sleeping in the front seats of the tiny Yaris!
Today is Ms. Penny Lane's birthday! We wish we could be with her to celebrate, but had to settle for a facetime chat and this super adorable picture.
